Want to know more about the use of Wi-Fi, mobile devices and digital reading resources? Sign up for a pilot mLiteracy workshop where you will have the opportunity to learn more about digital reading materials and how to access them on a mobile device. Learn how to take full advantage of these changing conditions in libraries and prepare yourself and your library community for tomorrow. Join us as we play and experiment in this mobile space and become familiar with the territory.

Mobile (cell) phones are the preferred way of communication for many Africans. This workshop is the second of its kind, with the first one presented to Ekurhuleni Librarians earlier this year. The workshop is co-hosted by In the Cloud, Goethe-Institut and Web Learning (Derek Moore). It sets out to explore the combination of free Wi-Fi and mobile devices, creating an environment in which public librarians can become comfortable with these two technologies in a library setting. The focus will be on accessing early reading materials, and how digtitised and open access story reading materials can be accessed via mobile devices.
Participants can expect the following:
- Become more familiar with the challenges associated with using a mobile device to connect to the Internet and Wi-Fi;
- Learn how to access and use reading and information sources on their phones;
- Be able to communicate to their library community about the available resources and apps; and
- Run programmes and raise the awareness of digital reading opportunities for patrons.
