In the Cloud – a private VAT registered SA company – was established as a result of being awarded #LIASA Librarian of the Year. Thank you to all who have made this possible! It is #liasa18 conference again, and this time round I have to present a poster on what I did with the award money. In the Cloud participated in a community outreach event during the week of 3-6 May 2017. It was a unique experience, with the opportunity to train librarians and give back as part of being the Librarian of the Year 2016. The training took place at the Mbazwana Public Library, and was attended by librarians from public libraries in the surrounding areas – 11 librarians in total. It was done in collaboration with University of Pretoria and the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf). It was a huge privilege to teach 20 librarians from the Johannesburg Public Library, on becoming digital citizens. A digital citizen is somebody who can use programmes such as Windows, Paint, Word, PowerPoint and Excel with ease. This person is also comfortable with working in the online environment, and staying up to date on new trends – both as downloaders and uploaders of information, and do so taking the necessary responsibility for it.
