On 20 & 21 February librarians from Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University received hands-on In the Cloud training on conducting webinars and streaming events live. In the Cloud helps librarians and teachers prepare for the 4th Industrial Revolution, blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological environment. Conducting and participating in virtual events offer so many benefits! It is often far more convenient and affordable to join a meeting/presentation/conference from wherever you are in the world, without having to inconvenience yourself. Stable, good quality and affordable Internet connection should be a priority, and something librarians should collectively advocate for it – especially in Africa.
Each participant was able to setup a meeting room, compile a Google Form to handle registrations, compile an invitation, and present a webinar – in real time. It was a first experience for all participants, but they thoroughly enjoyed learning how technology can complement their work, without the fear of being replaced by technology. Live streaming also offer many advantages, at the same time recording a real-live event for playing it afterwards, towards even further impact.
